What to ask the clinic
Bring this list. Let them put numbers on your sheet.
This site is a kitchen, not a doctor
Everyone’s kidneys are different. Labs change. Dialysis changes the rules. Use this for groceries and supper ideas. Let your doctor or dietitian set the numbers that are yours.
Ask these
Write the answers on paper or in your phone. Then this kitchen makes more sense.
- How much sodium a day do you want for me?
- Do I need to watch potassium and phosphorus right now, or only salt?
- How big should my protein portion be?
- Do I have a fluid limit, especially in this heat?
- Are salt substitutes okay for me?
- Is there a shake or supplement you actually want me on?
Call them, don’t wait, if
You swell fast, you cannot catch your breath lying down, you faint, or your chest feels wrong. Those are clinic-and-urgent problems, not a recipe problem.
